How Shopper Conversations Shift Through the Seasons
As we head into the holiday shopping season and the rush of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we thought it would be the perfect time to explore what shoppers are talking and asking about. For this analysis, we used our Smart Tag system to categorize and track conversation themes over the course of the last year.
Smart Tags are a powerful way to analyze the full spectrum of shopper conversations Remark handles for each brand. While we automatically detect a range of common topics, Smart Tags let you extend that analysis to anything you can describe in natural language. This gives both us and customers a more detailed and nuanced view of what shoppers are curious about.
Sales vs. Discounts: What the Data Shows
In the chart below, we compare two price related Smart Tags based on the fraction of tagged conversations per month for each. The first tag is Promotions/Sales while the second tag is Discount Code. The Promotions/Sales topic shows a clear seasonal increase with a peak in November. In contrast, the Discount Code topic shows fairly minimal variation throughout the year and a maximum value during the summer months.
